Audi is set to debut its all-new sporty super-hybrid SUV, the SQ8, in January’s North American Auto Show in Detroit, Mich.
To compete directly with the BMW X6 M, the Audi SQ8 may be inspired by the Q8 Sport Concept, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last March. It featured a 3.0-liter V6 engine for 444 horsepower with a 20 kWh electric motor, resulting in 469 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet of torque. Its 0 to 60 mph time is estimated at 4.7 sec, and a top speed is 171 mph.
On the design front, its more aggressive sport-tuned air suspension complements its squatted, hunched back. Other notables include Quattro all-wheel drive, more aggressive bumpers, and carbon ceramic brake discs. Four-wheel steering Virtual Cockpit gauge display will also come standard on all vehicles.
No word on when the production SQ8 will arrive in dealerships. Pricing, although not yet revealed, is expected to fall in the $100,000 range based on its specifications versus direct competitors.
